Dr. Bikram Timilsina is Chair of the Asian Institute for Advanced Research (AIFAR) and currently serves as a Member of the Federal Parliament of Nepal, representing Nuwakot–1. His work bridges research, policy, and public service, with a strong focus on inclusive development, governance reform, and evidence-based policymaking.
Dr. Timilsina completed a PhD in Politics and International Relations from Griffith University in 2022. Prior to that, he earned a Master of International Studies (Advanced) from the University of Queensland and a Master’s Degree in English from Tribhuvan University. Before pursuing a research career, he worked in Nepal’s education and media sectors for nearly a decade and a half.
An interdisciplinary researcher, Dr. Timilsina has conducted extensive research across a wide range of fields including politics, geopolitics, climate change, health, peace processes, conflict management, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and women’s empowerment. He has published book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, and op-eds on national and international platforms, and has presented his research at several international conferences.
Alongside his academic work, Dr. Timilsina has been actively engaged in policy dialogue and advocacy, collaborating with government institutions, civil society organizations, and international development partners to address pressing global and national challenges. He previously served as a part-time Lecturer in the Master of Governance and Anti-Corruption Studies program at Tribhuvan University, an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Centre for Environment and Population Health (CEPH) at Griffith University, and Secretary of the Nepal-Australia Research and Development Society (NARDS).
Through both research and public service, Dr. Timilsina remains committed to advancing evidence-based policy, improving the lives of marginalized communities, and promoting social justice and sustainable development.
